I hope this doesn't sound offensive but MIT's Open CourseWare initiative does not allow you to earn a degree.
I think your posting is misleading.
The goal of the project is simply to provide their curriculum online for the world for free. There are several other universities that also participate in the OpenCourseWare Consortium.
You are right, you can take all the classes, consume all the material, do the assignments just the same as a full time student but you can't get credit for it ...
